2022 Teacher of the Year "Making IT Happen"

Purpose of Award:  This award is presented to a teacher from an OKSTE member district who exhibits exemplary integration of technology in the classroom teaching and learning process.

Criteria:  Teachers must model and apply the ISTE Teacher Standards as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning, enrich professional practice, and provide models for students, colleagues, and the community.  See all criteria at:  https://www.iste.org/standards/for-educators

Award Winners:  OKSTE will choose 1 teacher who recognizes and integrates a wide variety of technology tools and strategies to enhance the learning experience of all students.

Application:  Applications must be received by midnight on Monday, September 26th.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  

Award:  Award recipients will receive statewide recognition and a plaque.

Part A:  Teacher Profile

The following information should be included as the first page of the application/nomination:

        • Applicant name
        • Application’s email address
        • Grade level(s) and/or subject(s) taught
        • Total number of years in teaching (in any state)
        • School site(s)
        • School district
        • School district address, including zip code
        • Superintendent’s name
        • Superintendent’s email address

Part B:  Nomination Statement

The Nomination Statement is a video or narrative written by a representative of the OKSTE member who provides the reason for the individual as an outstanding teacher.  The narrative is limited to 2000 words, two (2) pages in length, 10-12 point font, Arial or Times New Roman, with 1-inch margins. The video should be 3-5 minutes and have permission from those individuals in the video. Review the criteria at https://www.iste.org/standards/for-educators.  

Part C:  Nominee Résumé or Curriculum Vitae

Include the applicant’s current résumé or curriculum vitae.  Document may be scanned.  Ensure the document includes the applicant’s professional experience, education affiliations, and other relevant information.

Part D:  Lesson Plan

The lesson should describe a typical lesson in which technology is infused into both teaching and student learning.  The lesson should align to both ISTE Student Standards https://www.iste.org/standards/for-students and current state standards. You will submit a 5-7 minute video.  Make sure to show how technology is infused into both teacher and student learning and only include those that you have permission from in the video.

Part E:  Still Images

Include four (4) to six (6) still photographs of the teacher interacting with students while teaching.  Photographs may be used in print media or on the OKSTE website. There is a Media Release as part of the application.   Ensure that images of students are allowed for publication based on your school district’s policy.

Part F:  Letters of Recommendation (optional)

Three (3) letters of recommendation may be included in the application.  Letters may be from parents, students, co-workers, or others.

I, ___________________________, grant permission for the Oklahoma Society for Technology in Education (OKSTE) to use copies of finished materials, still images, original elements, and source tapes, or portions thereof, of my application/nomination for the 2022 OKSTE awards for the following purposes:

  • Promotional videos, DVDs, and CD-ROMS
  • Display on the World Wide Web for profiles and galleries
  • Public relations and press materials
  • Academic and journalist publications
  • Advertisements, documentation and print collateral
  • Demonstrations at trade shows, conferences, meetings, professional development sessions
  • Broadcast
  • Other media, as appropriate

I hereby grant permission for OKSTE to include my likeness and comments, in any and all forms, for the above-named event and/or publication.  I accordingly give OKSTE the right to use my image, voice, pronouncements, likeness, name, and any biographical material submitted by me in connection with the event/publication named above, whether used in excerpts or in full, for purposes of the reproduction and distribution described above.

I hereby release and discharge OKSTE and other event/publication sponsors and organizations from any and all liability arising out of my participation in the event or in connection with the performance of any of the activities described in this document as permitted herein, including but not limited to my rights of privacy or publicity, copyright, patent rights, trade secret rights, moral rights, or trademark rights.  All permissions and releases granted by me herein shall be effective in perpetuity and throughout the universe, and extend and apply to OKSTE and its assigns, contractors, sublicensed distributors, successors, and agents.
