Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced plans to use the Congressional Review Act to overturn the Federal Communications Commission's 2024 decision to allow schools and libraries to lend Wi-Fi hotspots to students via the E-rate program. Senator Cruz’s proposal must be approved by the full Senate and House and sent to White House for President Trump’s signature to prohibit this important new E-rate use.
Implications for School Districts: If Senator Cruz succeeds, school districts and libraries will not be permitted to use E-rate funds for mobile hotspot lending programs. Stopping Senator Cruz’s action will require a collective effort and CoSN plans to organize a grassroots campaign to enable CoSN chapters and members to express their opposition to Senator Cruz’s proposal.
We encourage you to contact your Oklahoma Senators and voice your support for WiFi Hotspots for students.
