🛠️ Tech Spotlight: Solving the "Whack-a-Mole" Filter Game
Managing Chromebooks in a middle school environment often feels like a never-ending game of whack-a-mole. Even with robust tools like Aristotle K12, students are constantly discovering new ways to bypass filters and rules.
Our Cybersecurity Specialist, Justin Forman, has developed a two-part solution to help IT teams stay one step ahead:
- Bookmark Monitoring: We pushed an app to all Chromebooks that monitors newly installed bookmarks. This creates a high-level view of the "new" sites students are saving to circumvent filters.
- Automated Site Scrubbing: Using the data from the bookmarks, Justin built a tool to scrub those frequent sites for new VPNs and proxy links, which are then used to update our Aristotle block lists.
Project: VOID WALKER
"A high‑velocity, multi‑threaded reconnaissance engine with a modern SOC‑style interface. It hunts, fingerprints, scores, and triages web targets at scale, then turns that data into actionable intelligence with dashboards, alerts, reports, and exports."
Available for: Windows, Linux, and Mac
Justin has included a README file in the folder that explains the operational details far better than I can! Please feel free to use this tool or share it with whomever you want.
